Worship Services
Sundays - Our main services are on Sunday mornings at 9 AM & 11 AM in the Sanctuary. These services are ~ 75 minutes each and closely follow the Book of Common Prayer for a balance of Word and Sacrament. Each week you can find a digital copy of the service bulletin at the top of our website. Our services are live-streamed and available on our website and YouTube for those unable to join us in person. During our services, St. Thomas Kids is available for Nursery - 5th grade. Between our morning services there is a time of fellowship in our Fellowship Hall. We meet at 105 Timothy Pl Athens, GA 30606 (near Macon Hwy & the Loop).
Morning Prayer on Wednesdays - The Daily Office of Morning Prayer has been the foundation of the devotional life of Anglican Christians for hundreds of years. It is a reliable pattern for regular Bible reading and prayer that helps us grow in our faith. We gather for a simple Morning Prayer service on Wednesday mornings at 8 AM. This is a great opportunity for hands-on experience and instruction using the Book of Common Prayer. Plus, it gives us the chance to pray as a group and to pray for specific needs in our church. We meet at the St. Thomas Parish House located at 395 S. Church St. Athens, GA 30605.
Evensong on Sunday Evenings - One new thing happening Fall 2026 is a monthly Evensong Service on Sunday nights at 5 pm! Evensong is a church service held near twilight in the Anglican tradition. For us this will be a slightly shorter service utilizing Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer (2019) with a sermon followed by Holy Communion. The Fall dates for this service are 9/13, 10/11, 11/8, and 12/13. Eventually, this may become a weekly service for us instead of just a monthly offering.
About our Worship
St. Thomas is a vibrant, disciple-making, liturgical church that is all about the Gospel. Liturgy is not just a style of worship, but a philosophy of participation and approach to worship. Liturgy and Sacraments are some of the most recognizable features of worship in an Anglican Church. At its root, liturgy means “work of the people.” That’s significant. When we gather, there is not a presenter on a stage, presenting to an audience. Instead, liturgy is our work together that we participate in together with God as the audience. The Anglican Way of Worship - Word & Sacrament - is rooted in the example of “Emmaus Worship” found in Luke 24:13-35. The way we think about services is influenced by Jude 1:3 “Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.”
We are not in the business of being new or novel, but in the business of worshipping Christ as He is made known to us by the Holy Spirit through both Word and Sacrament in a way consistent with what Christians have always believed and believe everywhere. The Anglican Way is a way of “mere Christianity” as C. S. Lewis put it. This is why we confess in the creed our belief in the one holy, catholic and apostolic church and is consistent with contending for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. It is a faith that is passed on for each generation, not reinvented each generation.
We aim to do this in a way that is vibrant – that is life-giving, empowered and indwelled by the Holy Spirit – not as dusty ritual or as some escapist re-enactment. Because of this “ancient-future” dynamic, our worship can have the ideal balance of being accessible and engaging to our culture by being vibrant, but also is distinct enough from our culture through our ancient roots to call people away to something scandalously better – new life in Christ. Furthermore, as a sacramental church, we believe that God meets us and nourishes us in worship. This means that when we come together for worship, God shows up through the work of the Holy Spirit to shape us – the worshipping community – into the image of Christ and then sends us on mission as his agents of reconciliation into a skeptical culture desperately in need of seeing the Gospel faithfully embodied, clearly proclaimed, and joyfully demonstrated.
Serving Together
Every time we gather for worship, there are several teams working together to make our worship possible. There is a team upstairs in St. Thomas Kids helping to care for and form our youngest disciples led by Dana Finocchio. Within the Sanctuary, Deacon Chris Sieggen oversees specialized opportunities for Music & Tech. We also have several Liturgy Teams that serve together each week under the direction of Deacon Tex Bagley and other key leaders at St. Thomas.

We have a pressing need in Tech to help with Sound and our Video Livestream. Technical skill is a plus, but not necessary. We provide on the job training for those wiling to serve!
