Exploring Membership

Membership at St. Thomas takes on two forms as one fellowship - covenant membership and confirmed membership. We have set up membership this way with the blessing of our Bishops and the understanding of our unique context as a young church in a strategic university town and modeled this off of other thriving young Anglican Churches with a similar history and context. We want to welcome Christians exploring the Anglican Way to join as Covenant Members of this local parish while learning about and discerning Confirmation and a greater commitment to the broader Anglican Movement.

  • Covenant members are those who deeply identify with this local church community, but not necessarily with historic Anglicanism yet and many of the “ins-and-outs” of our tradition. We know and accept that the Church has many expressions, sometimes within each local body. In other words, we are ecumenical. Local membership gives us “permission to pastor” you. Membership is required for serving in certain areas like St. Thomas Kids and St. Thomas Youth.

  • Confirmed members are those who identify with the Anglican tradition, want to be confirmed by the Bishop and intentionally join our church, our diocese (a regional expression of the global Anglican Church), and the historic, worldwide communion of Anglican believers. Confirmation is required for serving in certain areas like on the Vestry and Shepherding Team. It is also a necessary step in the Ordination process.

 
 

St. Thomas 101 - Sunday, August 30th | 1 pm - 3 pm in the Fellowship Hall - St. Thomas 101 is a class for those new to St. Thomas! It’s designed for those exploring our church and those ready to learn more about our membership process. We will share our brief history as a church, our current goals, vision for the future, and answer any questions you may have! Childcare is available and lunch will be provided.

New Member Welcome - Sunday, September 27th - We will be formally welcoming new members at our Sunday services on 9/27 in conjunction with Confirmations and the visit from our Diocesan Bishop, Archbishop Foley Beach. New members must be Baptized, affirm the Nicene Creed, and fill out the Official Member Covenant. after attending St. Thomas 101. We try and create several weeks between St. Thomas 101 and our New Member Welcome for ongoing prayer, discernment, and dialogue.
