STAC Liturgy Teams
We hope every member will serve from their gifts.
We want more people serving less often so that it is sustainable for all of us!
St. Thomas is a vibrant, disciple-making, liturgical church that is all about the Gospel. Liturgy is not just a style of worship, but a philosophy of participation. Liturgy means "work of the people."
Every time we gather for worship, there are several teams working together to make our worship possible. There is a team upstairs in St. Thomas Kids helping to care for and form our youngest disciples led by Dana Finocchio. Within the Sanctuary, Deacon Chris Sieggen oversees specialized opportunities for Music & Tech.
There are also several Liturgy Teams in the Sanctuary serving up front, working behind the scenes, and supporting our gatherings in the lobby / narthex area.
Areas of Service:
· Altar Guild – The altar guild is a group of men and women who serve the Lord by caring for the altar table, preparing the elements for Holy Communion, linen care, and reverent clean up.
· Crucifers – Each week the Crucifer bears the processional Cross in our services as a herald of the Gospel reminding us of the Lord’s presence with us. (Older Elementary – Young Adults preferred)
· Greeters – Greeters are on the frontlines of our Welcome process for each service inside and outside the church and in the Fellowship Hall.
· Lay Readers – Lay Readers prayerfully study the assigned passages from the lectionary each week and then proclaim God’s word to His people from the lectern in the worship service.
· Lay Eucharistic Minsters – Assist the clergy with the distribution of Holy Communion primarily through serving as chalice bearers.
· Ushers – Ushers are part of our Welcome process by distributing bulletins, seating congregants, and helping to collect the tithes and offerings each week.
· Prayer Team – The Prayer Team is a group of individuals that pray for and with individuals during the distribution of Holy Communion. They also intercede in prayer during services.
· Coffee Team – The Coffee Team is part of our Welcome Process in the Fellowship Hall. Right now this group is focused on helping with clean up after the final morning service each day.
Deacon Tex Bagley is the point of contact (tex@stacathens.org) for our Liturgy Teams right now. During the 2026-2027 school year we are working to add team leaders to each of these to assist with training, scheduling, and encouragement. If you are interested in team leadership, let Deacon Tex know.
